Vegas Alphabet by Terry Sutherland is a photographic collection of individual alphabet letters from vintage neon signs around Las Vegas and the West, which can be arranged to Spell Anything!
As a child, I remember driving through Las Vegas with my parents and being totally mesmerized by the bright lights and neon signs. In 2001, I was introduced to the Neon Boneyard, a dirt lot full of retired Vegas neon signs, preserved, but in disrepair, stacked along the chain link fence. Captivated by the graphics, colors, broken light bulbs, peeling paint, and nostalgia, I was inspired to begin photographing elements of old neon signage there and all around the west, ultimately focusing on the individual letters. The result is what I call the Vegas Alphabet, and their use is limited only by the imagination.
